History of The Club

Bernard Davis is the longest-serving member of the chorus and has been the club’s archivist for many years. He has amassed a huge collection of documents, photographs and memorabilia. We intend to add some of this to the web site but it will be a long process. Bernard has everything filed for easy reference (and holds much of the information in his head). He is always willing to answer  questions or dig out any information for anyone who asks.

Below is Bernard’s account of how all this came about:

I first became involved after  hearing this wonderful barbershop sound on a TV programme. On Monday August 4th 1975, the Lancashire Evening Post carried details of a Barbershop Singing Group led by Alfred Mee, a church organist at the Holy Family Church, Preston. I contacted Alf and was invited to 'come on down' the following night. Tuesday August 5th 1975 was my first taste of this  type of singing and for me there was no turning back! Alf was delighted to welcome me.

In no time at all I became the first club treasurer keeping records and looking after the finances and recording every detail. This tied in very well with my other hobby of keeping records of cycling trips around Lancashire. Since then I have always had a diary to record singing events, cycle rides and any number of other family birth dates etc.

From 1975 I have recorded most of our barbershop highlights in annual scrap books and can tell you how our club has grown in membership and experience.
